Origins - where did I first hear the words "the bog"? A little digging reveals it is British slang and I'll admit I haven't dug deeper to find more than that. My first exposure was a few jobs back, from a new employee who happened to be English, and went by the name Lawrence (when asked during his job interview by a fellow employee (who was an idiot - perhaps more on that later) if he could be called "Larry", the answer was "Errr...", long pause, "...no"). He drove an old beat up convertible whose top, as far as I know, no longer existed. Living in an often foggy and rainy area, it was common that he showed up to work cold and damp. On top of this his preferred form of dress was a t-shirt, shorts, black socks and black wing tip shows. On his first work morning, he showed up wet, disheveled, wind blown and inquires: "Hey, where's the bog???".
